The side supports must be placed where two solar modules meet, as indicated by the red boxes above. &nbsp;Note, there are typically even numbers of side net supports.<h4>Chain Tensioners&nbsp;</h4>These are typically used on two sides of the net perimeter. There will normally be one chain tensioner for each two supports.

SolarNets is constructed of high strength #18 netting, with 5/16-inch border rope. &nbsp;Cross-ropes are inserted on approximately 6-foot intervals to minimize net sag and stretching when under tension.The breaking strength of SolarNets exceeds 190 lbs.In net installations where multiple nets need to overlap to avoid creation of unprotected gaps, there is a second perimeter rope installed 12" inside the border. Energy is 1.26 joulesGolf Balls fall at 72mph, and are 1 3/4 inches diameter, weighing 1.6-oz. Energy in a golf ball is 71.6 joules. &nbsp;It is tremendously higher due to the rate of spin. Golf balls are designed to spin in order to travel further.Baseballs fall at 74mph, and are 2.75 inches in diameter, weighing 5.25-oz. The average cost of SolarNets material is somewhat variable, depending mostly on the number of nets and &nbsp;supports. &nbsp;Estimated price per square foot of solar modules &nbsp;$5.50/sq. ft.Estimated cost per covered solar module $120 eachEstimated increase in system cost for 20 modules &nbsp;$2400Representing a system cost increase of &nbsp;&nbsp;7.5% &nbsp; for a $34000 purchase price of a 20 module system. &nbsp;If multiple nets are needed due to an irregular array shape, the cost estimate should be increased by about 10%.The above estimates include the nets, supports and shipping. &nbsp;Sales tax will need to be added for California residents.Based on the typical replacement cost being $2000 per event, the net cost is about 6% of the cost of replacing a damaged module. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;$120/$2000 &nbsp;= &nbsp;6%Replacement cost of the net material alone is approximately &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;$1.50/sq. ft.

The objective is to join multiple small nets together, in order to create a complex net design.Installers can hook the main nets in place using spring clips. The small nets can be joined to the larger nets using 3/4-inch log rings. &nbsp;It is best to install hog rings about tevery 12 inches on simple retangular nets.<img src="/uploads/Hog_ring_example_pic_1a_1_a3d975dca9.jpg" alt="Hog-ring-example-pic-1a-1.jpg"><img src="/uploads/Hog_Rings_1a_affae4eb1c.jpg" alt="Hog-Rings-1a.jpg">Hog ring pliers can be requested at time of order. Pliers and 3/4-inch hogrings can be provided.

Optional powder coating is available for net support components. &nbsp;Standard support color is sprayed-on galvanized gray.Installations near saltwater can achieve greater corrosion resistance by powder coating support components.

For uniform appearance and best protection, the net supports should be spaced periodically around the net perimeter, with spaces of 5ft to 7ft between each support.Caution, while working on solar array, be sure to turn off the solar system at the AC breaker panel. <img src="/uploads/Net_Overlap_Diagram_2b_864d2a38f4.jpg" alt="Net-Overlap-Diagram-2b.jpg">The direct attach supports include a 6-inch tilt-away angle in order to minimize shadows caused by the supports, plus it enables maximum coverage of solar module surfaces.<img src="/uploads/image_4_f319a3ba9e.png" alt="black net">Carabiner clips attach directly to the supports on two side of the net. &nbsp;The opposite two side use two carabiners &nbsp;and a chain segment to enable net tensioning<img src="/uploads/image_5_f6ce873d60.png" alt="image-5.png">Attaching large nets to supports can be physically challenging. They require roof &nbsp;attachments appropriate to the type of roof covering. Attachments are available for various roof covering styles.

The downside, is our testing shows black nets cause about 5% higher loss of solar production due to sun blockage of the black color.White nets are preferred by some homeowners. They cause less loss of solar prodution, but lack the UV resistent treatement of the black net. The life expectancty of the white nets will be a bit shorter.

Two legs provide vertical lift, and the rear-facing chain resists forward pull force from the net.This style of support is the strongest at resisting heavy net loads.Steel legs are powde-rcoated to provide protection from corrosion, and the hook eye is stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance.Three Point SolarNets Support brackets are available in &nbsp;24-inch lengths. &nbsp;The 24-inch height provides the best net height after the height of the solar panel is considered.

Most solar panels claim to be able to withstand hail up to 1-inch in diameter. Solar Hail Blocker(TM) add another layer of protection, blocking hail stones ranging from 1-inch to 2-inches. Hail Blocker protects against golf balls and hail stones.<img src="/uploads/Hails_size_vs_speed_05b24dbc93.jpg" alt="Hails size vs speed.jpg">Some smaller hail stones below 1-inch are likely to pass through the 1-inch openings in the tightest Hail Blocker weave, but should not cause damage to the solar panels. But hail stones larger than 1-inch will be blocked, effectively extending the hail stone protection from 1-inh to 2-inches, essentially doubling the protection.Even a &nbsp;2-inch hail stone still has less energy than a standard 1.75" golf ball.As hails stones become larger, the falling velocity increases proportionately. &nbsp;Eventually the larger size and faster falling speed will overwhelm the protective ability. But saving even on panel from damage can offset the cost of adding Hail Blocker nets.Naturally there can be no blanket guarantee that Hail Blocker will protect against solar panel damage from all hail. Variables like hail size and wind gusts that accelerate the impact speed can cause the impact velocity to vary tremendously.&nbsp;Likewise, there is little doubt that adding SolarNets will help minimize some of the damage.&nbsp;After large hail storms, nets may need to be retensioned due to stretching caused by the weight of accumulated hail.Adding optional support wires beneath the Hail Blocker(TM) net greatly increases the net strength, and may prevent significant stretching.&nbsp;<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:50%;"><img src="/uploads/Net_Support_Wire_18888153cf.png" alt="Net_Support_Wire"></figure>Installing Three-point net supports directly to the roof surface produces the most heavy duty net installation.<img src="/uploads/Best_Hail_Net_73ad60eb8c.jpg" alt="Best Hail Net.jpg">
